  • What are the overheads (additional costs) involved in renting a car in Dubai?

Renting a car in Dubai is relatively easy and affordable, making it a convenient way to get around. However, before renting a car, it is essential to understand the expenses that come with it. Here are some of the expenses associated with renting a car in Dubai.

    1. Rental Cost

The rental cost is the most apparent expense of renting a car in Dubai. The rental rates vary depending on a type of car, duration of rental, and time of the year. The cost of renting a car in Dubai can range from AED 100 to AED 500 per day, depending on the vehicle’s make and model. Luxury cars such as BMW, Mercedes-Benz, and Audi can cost upwards of AED 1000 per day.

    2.Fuel expenses

Fuel costs are another significant expense associated with renting a car in Dubai. While fuel prices in Dubai are relatively low compared to other countries, it is still necessary to factor the cost of petrol or diesel when planning a trip.

    3.Insurance

When renting a car in Dubai, it is essential to purchase insurance. The insurance costs can vary based on the type of coverage, but it is essential to have protection in case of any accidents or damages. Most car rental companies in Dubai provide comprehensive insurance as part of the rental package.

    4. Salik Charges

Salik is a toll system in Dubai that charges vehicles for using certain roads and bridges. When renting a car, it is important to note that Salik charges are not typically included in the rental fee. Visitors can expect to pay around AED 5 per toll.

    5.Additional Fees

Additional fees may include delivery and collection, additional driver fees, or excess mileage.

In conclusion, renting a car in Dubai can be a convenient way to explore the city.

  • Why do rental car companies block the deposit amount on your credit card?

Dubai has become a global hub for tourism and business, with millions of visitors coming to this vibrant city every year. Many of these visitors choose to rent a car to travel around the city and explore the surrounding areas. However, one of the most common complaints from those renting a car in Dubai is related to the deposit amount being blocked on their credit cards.

So, why do car rental companies in Dubai block the deposit amount on your credit card? The simple answer is that it’s a standard procedure to protect the rental company from potential loss or damage to the vehicle.

Most car rental companies in Dubai require a deposit from renters before they can drive the car off the lot. Deposit amount varies depending on a type of car rented, the duration of rental, and other factors. The deposit is typically held as a pre-authorization on the renter’s credit card, which means that the funds aren’t actually transferred from an account but are held until a rental period is over.

The reason why rental car companies block the deposit amount on a customer’s credit card is to ensure that they have adequate funds to cover any repairs or replacement costs in case of damage to the car. For example, if a customer rents a car in Dubai and gets into an accident that causes damage to a car, the rental company can use pre-authorized deposit to cover the cost of repairs without having to go through a hassle of trying to get reimbursed by insurance companies.

Additionally, blocking a deposit on a credit card can help rental companies avoid fraud or unpaid rental fees. By requiring a deposit, the rental company can ensure that renters have financial means to pay for the rental and will be more likely to return a car in good condition.

In conclusion, while it may be frustrating for some renters, the practice of blocking a deposit on a credit card is an essential step taken by rental car companies in Dubai to safeguard their own financial interests. It’s important for renters to understand that the deposit amount will be released once the rental period is over, and any fees or damages are paid for. Renters should also check with their credit card company to confirm the period for the hold release policy. By following the rental terms and conditions, both the renter and the rental car company can have a mutually beneficial rental experience.

If you are a UAE resident, you are required to submit:

    • Copy of Emirates ID

If you are a Tourist visiting the UAE, you need to submit :

  • Can I rent a car for AED 500 per month in Dubai?

The lowest available monthly car rental options in Dubai start from AED 1200 on Skyluxsecar. Special seasonal offers bring down the prices to AED 999 per month but they are hard to come by and might include hidden charges. This is mainly because it’s not feasible for a licensed car rental company to provide a car at a lower rate.

Incase you’re getting a car for an unbelievable AED 500 monthly rental price, it’s too good to be true. Please be cautious of such offers and the car rental companies you’re planning to hire from, especially since you will be putting down a security deposit of AED 1000 or so which is refunded 30 days after you return the car.

  • What kind of Driving License do you need to rent a car in Dubai?

Drive License for Car Rental in Dubai:

When planning a trip to Dubai, it’s important to know what kind of driving license you need in order to rent a car. Driving in Dubai offers a convenient and efficient way to explore the beautiful city and its surroundings.

To rent a car in Dubai, you will need a valid driving license from your home country or an International Driving Permit (IDP). If your license is in the English language and uses Latin alphabets, you may not need an IDP. However, if your license is in a language other than English or uses a non-Latin alphabet, it is advisable to obtain an IDP to avoid any potential language barriers.

It is worth noting that the minimum age requirement to rent a car in Dubai is typically 21 years, but some car rental companies may require renters to be at least 25 years old. Additionally, some rental companies may impose a surcharge for drivers under the age of 25.

Before renting a car, it is essential to familiarize yourself with the local driving rules and regulations. In Dubai, driving is done on the right-hand side of the road, and seat belts are mandatory for both the driver and passengers. Speed limits are strictly enforced, and using a mobile phone while driving is prohibited.

It is highly recommended to carry essential documents such as your passport, driving license, and IDP with you at all times when driving in Dubai. Additionally, you should have a valid travel insurance policy that covers driving in a foreign country.

By understanding the driving license requirements and adhering to the local traffic laws, you can have a hassle-free and enjoyable experience exploring Dubai at your own pace. So, don’t miss out on the opportunity to rent a car and discover all the wonders this incredible city has to offer.

Basic insurance is included in the car rental charges as per RTA Dubai regulations. Full-coverage insurance and additional insurance options may be available at an extra charge by the respective car rental company.

  • What is CDW insurance?

CDW insurance is Collision Damage Waiver which means that you are covered if there are any accidental damages to the car in a collision, no matter who is at fault. However, it is essential to get a Police Report (whichever emirate you are in).

Consider getting CDW insurance for stress-free driving.

  • What is comprehensive insurance?

  • What about fuel charges? Who pays for the petrol (gas) in a rental car?

  • What type of fuel should I fill in the car I have leased?

Always check / note the type of fuel you must refill in the car you are hiring, right at the start. You can reach the car rental staff and check with them by mentioning the car you’re driving and the rental reference no.

While staff at the fuel stations / petrol pumps can assist you with this, it is your responsibility to fuel the rental car with the right type of gas.

In the event of fueling a car with wrong fuel type, you might be liable to pay for  damage done to the car including the cost of repairs and days it is kept in a garage.

If you meet with an accident, minor or major, be sure to get a Police report. Your car should be insured with basic insurance at the least and if it’s not your fault, you’ll get a green slip from the Police which means you are not liable to pay for the damages.

If, however, you get a red slip, you are entitled to pay as much as the excess fees max.

Some car rental companies are known to charge extremely high charges including repair costs + days the car is kept in the garage for repairs + admin fees (up to AED 1000) even for minor dents. Check the car rental agreement at the time of pickup before signing it. It’s best to avoid renting from such companies.
